Why I dance
Why I Dance is our love letter to women everywhere: to their wholeness, their beauty, their joy, and their right to their own sexuality exactly as it is.
In the film, 16 women, all pole dancers, of different ages, shapes, sizes, and colors will dance the same dance to the same soulful original vocal track. Their bodies are shot intimately and without retouching, and cut together to create the effect of a single, feminine body moving through space. Between footage of the movement our dancers hold signs declaring why they dance.
With its simple concept of unity, celebration and GLORY, “Why I Dance” endeavors to use dance to bring five minutes of hope, permission and joy into a world that still struggles to heal from a legacy of misogyny and sexual shame.
