Beautiful Hair – مو زیبا

Amireh Rezaei-Kamalabad - 2017 United States - 4:00

Over my bathroom sink, as I dragged the razor across my hand, watching hairs slowly dissipate, I felt embarrassed. Admitting to shaving your hands is something women either do not experience and chose not to admit. But as I continued, I began to view myself as involved in a sort of personal performance.

Since grooming is not often witnessed by others, I decided to make a private and embarrassing act, public. Sometimes I feel the need to justify my body hair, to explain that I am Iranian and that is why my hair is so thick and so dark. This is an aspect of myself I often try to hide, but through this film I openly acknowledge it.
