Happy 100 Grace Lee Boggs!
In honor of the American feminist, activist, writer and philosopher’s upcoming 100th Birthday we will screen the documentary American Revolutionary: The evolution of Grace Lee Boggs and what day would be more suitable for this activist celebration than the International Women’s Day?
Grace Lee Boggs is a 98-year-old Chinese American woman in Detroit whose vision of revolution will surprise you. A writer, activist, and philosopher rooted for more than 70 years in the African American movement, she has devoted her life to an evolving revolution that encompasses the contradictions of America’s past and its potentially radical future.
The program also includes two animations by director and animator Kelly Gallagher. Pen Up the Pigs explores connections between slavery and present day institutionalized racism and mass incarceration and Pearl Pistols is a hommage to all feminist activists out there.
