Samira
A coming of age documentary portrait about 19-year old Samira. From becoming the first female in history to join her University’s all male American football team, to getting the lead in Shakespeare’s Othello, Samira redefines what it means to be a woman in modern day Britain, in this visual exploration of youth, identity and womanhood.
This film is being screened in the short film program Coming of Age.
Director: Lainey Richardson
Lainey Richardson is a London-based filmmaker. After graduating from Camberwell College of Art with a BA (Hons) Photography degree, she made her directing and editing debut in 2011 with her short drama AWOL, gaining a 'Best Editor' award nomination at Underwire Festival. Her mid-length doc TIK & THE TURKEY followed in 2013, and in 2017 Lainey was selected for Encounters Film Festival’s Widening The Lens new talent scheme. Her latest film, SAMIRA, a short documentary, was completed in 2018 has just started it’s run on the film festival circuit.
